3Ls Academy — Literacy, Leadership & Liberation — is a community-led literacy organization rooted in Oakland. We believe that learning to read is an act of liberation, and we are committed to eradicating disproportionate literacy outcomes for Black and Brown children.
Our tutors don’t just teach reading — they build relationships, spark joy, and change trajectories. Our students have achieved a 96% SIPPS mastery test pass rate — compared to OUSD’s 25% average. That’s the 3Ls difference.
Position Details
Position: Literacy Tutor
Location: Oakland
Schedule: Monday–Thursday | Part-time | School Year (August–May)
Compensation: $18–$20/hour
Start Date: July 1st 2026
Reports To: Dr. Sabrina “Bri” Moore, Executive Director
What You’ll Do
- Provide high-dosage, small-group literacy instruction to elementary students (K–3) performing below grade level
- Deliver SIPPS-aligned foundational literacy instruction 4 days per week
- Use TutorBird and LessonSpace platforms to track student progress, sessions, and communication
- Prepare for sessions, document student data, and communicate with families weekly
- Participate in biweekly team meetings and ongoing professional development
- Complete required compliance steps: fingerprinting and Mandated Reporter Training
Who We’re Looking For
- Passionate about literacy and educational equity for Black and Brown children
- Experience working with elementary-aged students
- Willingness to learn structured literacy and phonics-based instruction (SIPPS training provided)
- Strong communication skills
- Reliable and organized
- Community-connected (Oakland applicants encouraged)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with structured literacy or SIPPS
- Bilingual (Spanish/English or other languages) a plus
- Background in education, child development, or related field
Compensation & Benefits
